They were right. Suomenlinna was not only a beautiful place to spend a day but also very interesting as it is a part of Finnish as well as Swedish history. I will not go into the details of that history because I'mm sure I will get it wrong somewhere along the line but if you want to know more there's facts just a Google search away.
For me, as a photographer, Suomenlinna was a challenge. I took so many photos in places I found interesting and beautiful that, when I viewed them in the computer, turned out dull and boring. It is hard to capture an atmosphere, an air, through a lense and especially as you share the space with a lot of others. In your mind you can go back in time and see what the fortress must've looked like when it was still working as a fortress. The problem is that you want to capture that minds picture but you constantly have to avoid the modern clothing, the strollers, the smartphones, all of the stuff that wouldn't have been there back in the day. So instead I tried to capture details I found beautiful and I hope you'll like the photos as well. And if you do visit Helsinki, be sure to take the boat ride to Suomenlinna.
The photos are uploaded on the City page.
