The cemetery where I felt this the most was the Montjuïc cemetery in Barcelona. If you ever have a chance to visit I highly recommend you to do so but be prepared to spend a lot of time while there. The cemetery is so big that it has its own bus line. I spent Chritsmas Eve 2011 at the cemetery with my sister, walking around, taking in the beauty and the wasteness of this place. But after we'd been there for a couple of hours I got this feeling that I had to leave, that my time in the cemetery was over. It wasn't a frightening sensation, more like a friendly suggestion and I will definitely return there some day.
The last cemetery I visited was Highgate cemetery in London. It's a fascinating place in its own rights. Ivy covering the headstones, graves upon graves, statues tilting and narrow pathways that takes you to new rows of graves and headstones. Karl Marx and Malcolm McLaren is buried here along with countless of others. I only visited the east cemetery but I look forward to returning and join a guided tour of the west side as well.
I have uploaded my photos from Highgate cemetery on the City Landscape page, just click on the photo above and you will be taken there.
