I was visiting Copenhagen for a concert and while there I met up with my dear friend P who I have been friends with for longer than anyone of us are willing to admit. She moved to Copenhagen some years ago and every time I go there I try to meet with up with her. This time we figured we would see some sights and one of those sights was the Round Tower, an astronomical observatory from 1635 which nowadays serves as an observation tower, a public astronomical observatory, an exhibition and concert venue and a historical monument.
The building itself was basically calling out to be photographed, with its spiral ramp instead of the expected staircase with nooks and crannies along the way and splendid views of the city once at the top. However, after climbing the ramp we needed to visit the restrooms and while waiting in line we spotted this glass wall showing a storage space behind it with lots of interesting pieces from the tower's history. My eyes went to the rocking chair illuminated by the sun shining through one of the tall, narrow windows and thought I saw it move, just a little. Having bad experiences with taking photos through windows I still wanted to capture this and tried my best to avoid the glares and reflections you usually get.
When I came back home I went through the many photos I had taken during my weekend in Copenhagen and although many of them had turned out great, this one had me caught. I found myself staring at it, waiting for the chair to move, which it did as soon as I turned my focus away from it. Finally I ordered a big copy of the photo, framed it and it is now hanging on my bedroom wall reminding me of a great weekend in Copenhagen and that not everything beautiful is put out on display.
