I thought it was about time I showed you what gear I use while taking the photos posted on my site. I mainly use a Canon EOS 600D which I've had for 5 years now. When I was searching for The Camera for me two things were important: 1. the best camera for the price I was willing and able to pay for it and 2. I wanted a camera I would be able to take with me everywhere without feeling weighed down. I do still love my camera but I'm starting to feel a need for a more advanced camera to be able to take more photo jobs so I am once again in search of the perfect alternative for me. This is my trusted Canon 18-55 lense that came with the camera when I bought it. It has proven to be versatile and it takes great photos. It is the lense I use the most and it works well in all kinds of situations. This is my Sigma 70-300 lense, the first lense I bought. The one area where my 18-55 lense felt restricted was when I wanted to take photos of details from a far. What I didn't realize when I bought it (because I was seduced by the price) was that it doesn't have a stabilizer. This means I have to keep the camera steady myself which is hard given how heavy this lense is. But it has given me great photos regardless and my day at the car races a couple of years ago or the photos I took at the bird feeder would've been a disaster without it. It's not a lense I travel with but I like to have the alternative when it's needed. I bought this Canon 50mm as a gift to myself this year. I wanted a lense that would be easy to travel with (light weight) and that would take great portraits. I brought this with me to Barcelona this year and challenged myself by leaving the 18-55mm at home. The portraits turned out great but I felt restricted when taking photos around town. I think we still need to get to know each other.
Since last Summer I also have a tripod which I bought very cheap at a flea market. I had been thinking I should buy one but wasn't sure I would use it enough to justify the cost for it so finding one cheap was lucky. Turns out I don't use it as much as I thought I would because I like to travel light regardless the distance I travel. But I'm really happy to have it when I need it. |
