I also tried broth which turned out to be almost right texture wise but way too transparent. Soy sauce turned out to be the winner between the three but I'm still not totally convinced. I think I have to continue looking for the perfect fit.
So today I've begun the quest of finding some liquid that will hopefully look like blood in a black and white photo. I did some research online and found out that they used chocolate syrup in the classic shower scene in Psycho which kinda confirmed my initial idea to use syrup. Turns out it doesn't look so good in still photos. I also tried broth which turned out to be almost right texture wise but way too transparent. Soy sauce turned out to be the winner between the three but I'm still not totally convinced. I think I have to continue looking for the perfect fit. And keeping to the theme I thought I'd share two of my favorite songs with a crime scene connection: Queens of the Stone Age You Got a Killer Scene There, Man and The Afgan Whigs Crime Scene, Part One. Enjoy!

So far there's four votes on the crime scene option and zero on the deadly sins option so I have begun researching, drawing up scenery and collecting ideas for how to create the feel I want.
Trust me, a quick Google search of crime scene photos will point you in the right direction but it will also make you wish you never came up with an idea like this. Even so, the research has made me realize that my original idea wasn't the best one. Originally I thought I would work in daylight, taking photos of stuff I find and making it into crime scene photos by implying there was a crime behind how the object came to be in just that place. I have now realized that I need to build scenes, use props and work in the dark, using a flash or some kind of strong work light to create the feeling I'm after. Hopefully the pictures will be eerie and disturbing without being too obvious. I'm also contemplating using models, anyone interested in playing a corpse? The wheels are a-turning but I'll leave you with one of the test-shots I did earlier today, just so that you'll get an idea of where I'm heading with this project. I know. I've been quiet for far too long but I've been contemplating an idea. Or two actually. And I need your help. So the ideas I've had are obvious inspired by what I watch on TV; crime. The first one came to me while watching CSI one night and realized crime scene photographs must be the the rawest form of photography there can be. And that sparked an idea; what if I was to take crime scene photographs of the crimes we witness every day, the ones no police or court would be interested in but crimes that still effect individuals every day? Adultery, indifference, ignorance, betrayal, the list could go on. The other idea came to me thanks to a line of beer from a Danish brewery called Amager. They've made a collection of beers inspired by the seven deadly sins. I'm not, like I've said before, a religious person but there's something provoking and thrilling about these seven forbidden things. So I started to think about how these "vices" translate to my life and how I can consider them "sins". And although I consider most of them "good" things (lust, gluttony, sloth etc.) I can still see how they could possibly be "wrong" even in my life/world. So if I were to make a list of seven deadly sins, how would it look? And this is where my two ideas meet. And still I want to separate them. So now I ask you, which idea should I pursue first? |
