I love to take my camera with me on my travels and especially when I go to cities. A city is filled with landmarks, it's the storyteller of a culture, it's a physical history book while the people occupying it are the bearers of the present culture. London is hard to beat when it comes to cities, history meets the present at every street corner and the streets are buzzing with life and culture, no wonder it is one of my favorite cities to visit.
Last year I visited London with a group of friends and family and I took a lot of photos. This one, Stolen Glance, stands out because of how it came to be.
We spent our last day in the city visiting markets, something I love to do not only for the opportunities of great photos but also for the possibility to find that one in a million something I want. The weather was great, the sun shone from a blue sky after a morning of overcast and when we decided to go into this indoors market I decided to take one test photo to adjust the camera to the new light. I tend to do this a lot since I use a lot of auto-settings and I want to be prepared in case that golden opportunity presents itself.
It wasn't until I got home and started going through the photos that I noticed what it was I had accidentally captured; that 'wink of an eye' moment of someone checking someone else out. Do I wish I had centered it better? Yes, it would've helped focus the eye on what is going on in the photo. But I also think the photo would've lacked from it, that it would've lost that feeling of looking in, capturing a moment of that day, that year.
